Admission

Students must be formally admitted to The University of Montana prior to registering for UMOnline courses. For more information about admission procedures and forms, please visit http://admissions.umt.edu. If you plan to take online courses only, be sure to check Online Courses Only on your admission application.

More information on Distance Only status

Students who intend to enroll only in online courses may opt to change their student status to "Distance." Doing so may result in reduced tuition and fees. Distance students are not required to submit an immunization form before being admitted. It is important to note that Distance students are not eligible for The University of Montana Health Insurance, Curry Health Center services, ASUM Services, discounted tickets for athletic events or access to Campus Recreation Services. Distance students are not eligible to take on-campus courses.

To change your status, download, complete and sign the Distance Learning Change of Status Form. The form must be completed again to change your status back to "On-Campus." Your status may be changed only one time per semester. Submit the completed form to Enrollment Services at Lommasson 103, or by fax: 406.243.5711.

Dates & Deadlines

Online courses share dates and deadlines with campus courses.

• Fall
• Wintersession
• Spring
• Summer

Please view the Academic Calendar for more information.

Financial Aid

The Financial Aid Office determines eligibility of aid. For consideration of eligibility, students should contact the Financial Aid Office as early as possible.

Immunization

Your student status determines whether or not you have an immunization requirement. If your status is Distance-Only, you do not have an immunization requirement and may only register for fully online courses. If you wish to register for any courses which include a face-to-face component, you are not eligible for the Distance-Only status and must submit an Immunization Form. You may change your status by submitting the Distance Learning Change of Status form. More information is available on the Curry Health Services web site.

Registration

Registration for online courses is the same for face-to-face courses, online via CyberBear. Registration typically opens for Fall courses in April, Spring courses in October and Summer courses in January. View the course schedule and then register for an online course.

Costs

Tuition and fees are assessed based on your campus, class and residency status. The tuition flat spot applies for most online courses. All online courses are assessed a $48 per-credit online learning fee in addition to tuition and other mandatory course fees. Financial Aid may be available if you are taking 6 or more credits. You will register, finalize your registration and pay fees on CyberBear.
