What is Blackboard?

Blackboard is the web-based course management system The University of Montana-Missoula currently use to support courses that are taught fully online, as well as online supplements to traditional courses taught on campus.

The Blackboard system provides web tools for faculty and students, such as document posting, announcements, calendars, discussion boards, chats and assessments.

UM's Blackboard site can be found at http://courseware.umt.edu.


What is a NetID?

A NetID is a unique I.D. generated by The University of Montana, used to access UM computing resources. Your NetID permits you to access Blackboard (http://courseware.umt.edu), Grizmail, and other campus systems. For more information, visit IT Central.


Is a Blackboard tutorial available?

To enroll in a self-paced online Blackboard tutorial, send an email message with your name and NetID to UMOnline@umontana.edu. You will receive an email that you have been enrolled in the tutorial and you will be supplied with information on how to access the tutorial within three business days. You can also reference the Blackboard User Manual or the UMOnline Blackboard User Guide for information.


Who has access to my homework assignments?

When you send an assignment to your instructor, only your instructor is permitted to see your work.


How may I use Blackboard for my campus-based classes?

Your instructor may use Blackboard to supplement a campus-based course in which you are enrolled. Your instructor(s) will tell you how to use Blackboard for your classes
