Frequently Asked Questions - Blackboard Access

How do I obtain an account on Blackboard?

If you are a student enrolled in one or more online courses, or in an on-campus course that uses Blackboard as an online supplement, an account will automatically be created for you on the Blackboard system. You register for online courses the same way you register for traditional courses, using CyberBear.

If you are an instructor, please contact courseware-support@umontana.edu for further information.

How do I login to Blackboard?

In order to gain access to a Blackboard course, you must be registered in Cyberbear for a course that uses Blackboard. An account is not created if you are not enrolled in at least one course that uses Blackboard.

Each student registered for an online course, or for a course that uses Blackboard as a supplement, is automatically given a Blackboard account. You can login at http://courseware.umt.edu by entering your NetID and password. You can find your NetID in Cyberbear under "Personal Information", and the password (by default) is the last six digits of your student ID.

(Note: Passwords expire every 180 days and must be changed on the UM Portal at http://onestop.umt.edu).

Your Blackboard account is available 24-48 hours after the student registers or changes registration in Cyberbear.

How do I find my NetID?

Login to Cyberbear and click on "Personal Information". Click on NetID. Your NetID is in the form of first initial, last initial followed by 6 digits (i.e. fl123456). Record your NetID, it will be used to log on to Blackboard. Your default password is the last six digits of your student ID. Your password can be changed on the UM Portal at http://onestop.umt.edu. (Note: Your password expires and must be changed every 365 days.)

Why is my course not in Blackboard?

First, check that you are registered for the course. Second, make sure that your instructor is using Blackboard for the course. If you are registered for the course, your instructor is using Blackboard and the course is still not displayed in Blackboard, this means that your instructor hasn't made the course available to the students yet. Contact your instructor about when you can expect the course to be available.
